I am pleased to submit our manuscript entitled:
“Information Ontology in World Religions: Implications for Distributed AI Governance and Digital Ethics”
for consideration for publication in AI & Society.
This manuscript develops a comparative framework of information ontology across Hinduism, Christianity, and Buddhism, and evaluates its normative implications for contemporary AI governance and distributed architectures. Rather than suggesting that ancient religious traditions anticipated artificial intelligence, the paper reconstructs their metaphysical accounts as ontological models of structure, meaning, and relationality. These models are then critically applied to present debates concerning algorithmic authority, centralization risks, blockchain-based AI validation, and RegTech accountability systems.
The manuscript makes three primary contributions:
Conceptual Contribution
It extends Luciano Floridi’s informational structural realism into comparative religious metaphysics, introducing a cross-civilizational framework for understanding ontological information beyond purely computational paradigms.
Normative Contribution
It provides philosophical grounding for distributed AI governance models by integrating semantic transparency (Christian Logos), epistemic humility (Hindu non-dualism), and relational validation (Buddhist dependent origination).
Policy-Relevant Contribution
It connects metaphysical analysis to practical AI governance concerns, including algorithmic interpretability, decentralization, and accountability mechanisms in digital regulatory systems.
The manuscript aligns closely with AI & Society’s interdisciplinary mission to explore the social, ethical, and philosophical dimensions of AI technologies. It engages with debates on technological power, epistemic authority, and human-centered AI while contributing a novel comparative religious-philosophical dimension rarely integrated into AI governance literature.
This work is original, has not been published previously, and is not under consideration elsewhere. All authors have approved the manuscript for submission. There are no conflicts of interest to declare.
We believe this manuscript will be of interest to scholars working in AI ethics, digital governance, philosophy of technology, and religion–science dialogue.
Thank you for considering our submission. We look forward to your response.
Sincerely,
